About
Learn bookkeeping by doing real bookkeeping
Bookkeeping Exercises is a practice-first learning site. Instead of reading about debits and credits, you post entries, reconcile statements, adjust and close the books of fictional businesses — and get precise, immediate feedback.
How it works
- A deterministic accounting engine checks every answer on our server: accounts, debit or credit side, amounts to the cent, and dates. A balanced entry with the wrong account is still wrong.
- Every exercise is generated from a template and validated automatically: the stated solution must balance, match an independently stated effect on the accounting equation, grade itself as correct, and reject its own reversal.
- AI is an optional, capped tutor for paid learners. It never grades work or decides whether books balance.
What we are not
We are not accounting software, tax or legal advice, a professional certification body, or a hiring tool. Our certificates are certificates of completion from Bookkeeping Exercises only. Lessons use US-style introductory accrual bookkeeping in US dollars; rules vary by country.
Content provenance
Lessons and exercises are original, written for this site with AI assistance, and verified by our automated accounting tests. They have not yet been reviewed by a credentialed accountant. If you find an error, use “Report an issue” or the contact form.
